Bespoke Framing

Our framer has been awarded the Fine Art guild's 'Commended Framer' qualification and can advise you with all aspects of framing. Our standard level of framing is Conservation framing, whereby all aspects of the frame are archival and won't harm your artwork. However, we can use materials that are more competitively priced if you are working to a budget, or if the protection of your artwork is key you can have Museum standard where we will make the frame fully reversible (no dry mounting), and use fully protective elements such as UV inhibitor glass. We are also happy to advise on framing related issues such as safety, advisable weight restrictions or location problems.

Turnaround time - 10 working days + printing if needed. We will always try to help if you need your frame sooner than this, but please bear in mind that we may need more than the standard turnaround if it is a large or complex order.

Which glass is right for your frame?

For those customers who are looking for museum standard quality we offer a superior selection when it comes to choosing glass for your frame. Our standard glass is the optically clear 'Water White Float', but we also offer museum glass such as 'Tru Vue Conservation Clear', 'Mirogard™ Anti-Reflect' and 'Mirogard™ Anti-Reflect glass plus enhanced UV filtration'.

The frame above illustrates different glass options: •  Water White (standard optically clear glass) •  Mirogard (the central strip, practically invisible) •  Non-Reflective glass (etched on one side which diffuses    your image).

Where colour reproduction and clarity of image is of the utmost importance we recommend Mirogard. All Mirogard™ glass can be used at any distance off the artwork without image distortion, making it perfect for box frames. Because they are absolutely colour neutral and reduce reflections to less than 1%, Mirogard glass is as good as invisible.

Leading authorities on preservation recommend using glazing that blocks at least 97% UV light. 'Tru Vue Conservation Clear' and 'MIROGARD™ Anti-Reflect glass plus enhanced UV filtration' glazing products surpass this standard in providing up to 99% UV protection, the maximum level of protection available in the industry, protecting against irreversible UV light damage.

Perspex is also a convenient option for those whose exhibition may be touring, taking the risk out of transporting frames. We use an optically clear Perspex which has no visual difference to our standard glass.For more information on our specialist glasses please see the links below:

Does your print need to be mounted?

For prints over 40x30cm we recommend mounting to a board to keep them flat within the frame and avoid any sagging or rippling of the print. There are three substrate options available for framing; 3mm PVC for frames with a small depth, 5mm KAPA™ foamboard and 2mm Dibond.

PVC and KAPA™ offer a lightweight rigidity to your print where as Dibond is archival, meaning it will not deteriorate or affect your artwork over time.

Superior quality window mounts at no extra cost.

We only use Artcare™ mountboard for our window mounts, described as the next generation in museum-quality conservation. Whereas standard mountboards are purely acid-free so as not to harm artwork, Artcare™ proactively traps and neutralizes pollutants and acid by-products that would damage your artwork. We offer this at no more cost than a standard mountboard, with over 150 colours and textures available.

Extensive range of frame mouldings available

Our Standard Range offers you a selection of our most popular mouldings, kept in stock so we can offer you better prices and a faster turnaround. However, if you would like something a little different we can source from hundreds of mouldings through our seven approved frame suppliers, such as Nielsen Bainbridge and Ashworth & Thompson.
