Young Love by Ewen Spencer

Ewen Spencer explores Young Love in his new photobook published by Stanley/Barker.

Graham Rounthwaite at British music, fashion and culture magazine The Face originally commissioned Ewen to create a series focusing on youth clubs across the United Kingdom in 2000.

From Cornwall to Lancashire, Spencer photographed teen club goers as they drank, danced and fell in and out of love and lust.

Now, a collection of 30 of those images are being published by independent publishing company Stanley/Barker.

Messy drama

Ewen is a British photographer and filmmaker based in Brighton who captures moments in youth culture.

“Today we stay younger longer and become grown up sooner,” he says.

“The successes of making any sort of story around youth is to recognise that we’ve all been there at some time in our lives.

“Being a teenager is a concentrated moment of the human condition – all of the successes and pitfalls all being played out in one messy drama.”

We will be producing exhibitions and limited edition print runs for their book launches.

Ewen Spencer’s exhibition is our first official collaboration. We will be producing 10 C-type prints at 800 x 600mm for the exhibition.

“This is an incredibly exciting venture for Spectrum Photographic,” said co-owner Hazel Watts.
