Spectrum is pleased to be sponsoring ‘The Last Stand’ by Marc Wilson
‘The Last Stand’ photographed between 2010 and 2013 and currently made up of 43 images, aims to reflect the histories, stories and memories of military conflict. Marc Wilson is documenting some of the physical remnants of the Second World War on the coastlines of the British Isles and northern Europe, focusing on the military defense structures that remain and their place in the shifting landscape that surrounds them. The work currently includes images from locations along the coasts of the UK, the Channel Islands, northern France and Belgium.
These man-made objects and zones of defence now sit silently in the landscape, imbued with the history of our recent past. Some remain proud and strong, some are gently decaying. Many now lie prone beneath the cliffs where they once stood. Through the effects of the passing years, all have become part of the fabric of the changing landscape that surrounds them.
Upcoming exhibitions of ‘The Last Stand’ include:
The Royal Armouries, Fort Nelson: May 3rd to October 1st, 2013
