Bianca Salvo’s exploration of space photography is on show at NOUA, Bodø now.
The Universe Makers is the result of long-term research around photography of and from space.
Salvo explores the role photography, technology and science fiction have played in producing evidence addressing our collective understanding and false perceptions of interstellar exploration.
Humans have always searched for answers in the cosmos. This has led mass culture and media to convert the invisible into something visible for us to believe in.
Salvo works with documents and images from the NASA archive, accompanied by written documentation, books and collected items.
She intervenes and changes accepted documented information to question its informative function and challenge authenticity.
This is the first time the images and documents have been displayed in Norway.
The exhibition will showcase genuine NASA imagery and installation pieces.
Salvo received the Lucie Foundation ChromaLux Scholarship for the work, to present the exhibition at Month of Photography Los Angeles, MOPLA, and at Atelier NOUA.
Bianca Salvo is an Italian artist, living and working between Milan and Bogota.
She received an MA in Photography in 2012 from the London College of Communication and a BA in Visual Art & Photography from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan in 2010.
Her work has been exhibited in Italy and at international exhibitions including: SiFestOff16, Rimini; Kunstquartier Bethanien, Berlin; and Miami Art Basel.
Salvo has previously been nominated for Unseen Dummy Award 2017, Athens Photofestival APhf: 15, Exposure Format Festival 2014 and The Sproxton Photography Award in 2012.
