The winner of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2019 has been revealed.
Sarah Skinner won this year’s overall prize for her image, Grab life by the…!.
This year saw a staggering 4,000 entries from 68 different countries.
Judges whittled those down to just 40 finalists, with Skinner’s image emerging as the clear winner.
Taken in Botswana, the image shows a cub and an adult lion ‘playing’.
But the thought of what might have happened next truly makes the eyes water.
“I am absolutely delighted to be awarded the title,” said Skinner.
“It certainly warms my heart to know that this image will spread some laughter and happiness around the world.
“I am happy to report that this lioness continues to thrive in the pride, having seen her again in October this year.
“I can only hope and encourage everyone, as a collective, to each do our part in the conservation of all wildlife species, so that future generations can enjoy them, in the same way that I have done during my career as a wildlife photographer.
“Long may lions walk the plains.”
Skinner’s prize includes a safari in the Masai Mara, Kenya, donated by Alex Walker’s Serian.
She also wins a unique handmade trophy from the Wonder Workshop in Tanzania, a photography bag from THINK TANK, and an iPad preloaded with the Affinity Photo’s award-winning software.
Grab life by the…! also won the Creatures of the Land Award, sponsored by Serian.

Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2019
The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is a global, online and free-to-enter photography competition.
Founded by Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam, both professional photographers and passionate conservationists, it showcases seriously funny images of the earth’s most amazing wildlife.
In addition to providing some light-hearted relief, the competition aims to highlight wildlife conservation in an engaging and positive way.
The main competition partner is The Born Free Foundation.
To help spread the conservation message, Paul and Tom have shared three top tips:
- Shop responsibly – try to shop locally and avoid buying non-recyclable products and one-use plastics.
- Restrict water use at home – have shorter showers, water your garden less and stop flushing the loo every time.
- Become a ‘wild influencer’ – this is a special person who might not be a mega activist but really cares about the environment and wants to do something to help.
