Some of the world’s top photographers will present their works through interactive events at Photo North this weekend.
Held in a single venue in Harrogate, Photo North is on from November 9 to 11.
A back drop of street food, live music and bars will play host to everything from exhibitions and zine stalls to photo walks.
Other highlights include portrait salons, workshops, portfolio reviews, screenings and live chats.
All the events are championing photography and open to the public.
Curators Peter Dench and Sharon Price have secured participation from iconic names including Tom Oldham, Tom Stoddart and Paula Bronstein.
Poulomi Basu, Tish Murtha, Jenny Matthews, Anastasia Taylor Lind and Dean Belcher are also set to take part.
Women and War
To commemorate 100 years since the end of WWI, the festival will show Tom Stoddart’s Shadows of War, a stunning reportage of the battlefields and war memorials in Belgium and France.
Speaking ahead of the event Stoddart praised its interactive nature.
“This is great news for international photography, to not only bring the public in to see some incredible images but to also offer hands-on talks and seminars,” he said.
The headline exhibition for the 100-year commemoration will be Women and War.
Curated with the Imperial War Museum and Anne McNeill of Impressions Gallery, it is wholly made up of female photographers’ work.
The exhibition examines the impact of war on women – from those fighting to displaced mothers.
Another highlight of the festival is Jane Hilton’s, All Lit Up. This ongoing project of people, places and objects lit up in America is a nod to a culture where living the American Dream is a constant part of life.
Festival director Price said: “People are so passionate about photography and this festival shares insights from some of the true heavyweights for a really immersive, deep dive into their works.
“We have one perfect venue, with headline events and renowned photographers confirmed with the list growing weekly.
“The creativity in planning the festival format, workshops and seminars is something totally unique to offer day trippers or those wanting to get the most out of a long-weekend away with a really high-quality cultural experience.”
Organisers hope the ‘sensational line up’ will deliver a thought-provoking, lively and inclusive festival.
They believe it will appeal to professionals, enthusiasts, amateurs and anyone who wishes to engage with the medium.
Photo North promises to be an exciting and engaging new photo exhibition in the UK.
