Film Scanning – Imacon X5 Scans
Spectrum offer CCD scans on the latest Imacon X5 scanner. This enables us to produce scans in either 8 and 16 bit depth with a quality that now really does rival that of any drum scan. This new scanner handles all film formats up to 5×4. We recommend using the X5 particularly when scanning colour negatives as it can give a smoother scan than achievable with a drum scanner.

16 bit scans allow for greater post scanning colour corrections than its 8 bit equivalent. File sizes are doubled due to the increased bit depth while the resolution remains the same. Please note files will need to be re-saved as 8 bit when submitting for print as output devices do not support 16 bit files.
The Imacon Scanning service includes:
- Basic colour correction
- File saved as uncompressed Adobe 98 RGB TIFFs (8Bit) – Other colour spaces and formats available on request
- Price does not include clean up (dust mark removal)
- Lead time dependent on the size of the job
Printing Turnaround Times
Studio Prints | 2 – 7 working days – depending on level of service needed |
Types of print
Photographic C-type prints are made by exposing light onto paper which is then developed and washed using traditional photographic techniques.
Inkjet printing with the latest Epson 9900 printers. Using a 10 colour UltraChome ink set creates a wider colour gamut for optimum performance on fine art papers.
Why I Choose Spectrum
Simon Norfolk
“Having worked closely and built a relationship with the printers at Spectrum over the years, we speak the same language. They understand the look I am trying to achieve and I know they will get the best results from my images using the latest technology and their years of experience. Now that my files are archived at Spectrum my galleries can order prints while I’m shooting on location, and they’ll be waiting for signing on return from my assignment.”
