Photo London x Hahnemühle Student Award 2024
by spectrum
Now in its second year, the Photo London x Hahnemühle Student Award is an exciting opportunity for students enrolled in photography degrees at UK universities. The aim of the award is to bring developing photographers’ portfolios to international attention and support early-career talent within the industry. Launched in 2023, this initiative builds on Photo London’s ongoing commitment to supporting and investing in emerging photographic artists.

This year’s judging panel – a carefully selected group of industry experts, spent time considering a vast amount of submissions from over 100 nominated students across 46 UK-based universities. The six judges shortlisted five students whose work is now being showcased in the Photo London group presentation.
The shortlisted photographers for this years student awards are:
Ada Marino (University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Swansea), Africa Barrero-Alexander (The University of the West of England), An Liu (UAL London College of Communication), Ben Hubert (Arts University Bournemouth) and Emi O’Connell (UAL London College of Communication)
We were delighted to collaborate on this award with our long term paper supplier, Hahnemühle UK, to help produce this exhibition of works for Photo London 2024. We worked closely with each of the five shortlisted students, testing and working on their photographic files before printing the final pieces on each of their selected Hahnemüle papers. Their final prints were then mounted to KATZ board – which we have introduced to our mounting options due to its eco credentials. You can find out more about all our student services here.

The Prize
All shortlisted artists will receive VIP passes for the fair and travel to the Fair for the special ceremony on Saturday 18 May 2024. The winner will receive a trip to the Hahnemühle mill in Germany and the printing of 5-10 artworks on their preferred Hahnemühle papers, either at the Hahnemühle UK office or at a Hahnemühle Certified Studio.
People’s Choice Award
In addition to the winner selected by the Hahnemühle Student Award’s independent jury, this year’s competition is open to the public to select the People’s Choice winner. Please choose your favourite shortlisted artists and cast your vote right here.
These exhibition prints are now on show at Photo London 2024 in Hahnemühle Student Award space (D22 Discovery area) in the Embankment Galleries. The winner will be revealed during a special ceremony at the fair on Saturday 18th May.
