RPS Women in Photography Bursary

The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) has launched a new bursary for women in photography.

Applications are now open for the new RPS Women in Photography Bursary.

The bursary will support a female, or female-identifying, postgraduate student to develop a photography project.

Between 70% and 80% of photography students around the world are women.

However, they only account for about 15% of professional photographers.

RPS Women in Photography Bursary

Bursary funds can be used for any project-related expenses.

Projects may include photo essays, exhibitions, documentaries, etc.

At the end of the project, the recipient will present a body of work to the RPS Women in Photography Group and work with the society to share their project.

In addition to a £3,000 bursary the recipient will have the opportunity for one-to-one sessions with leading women photographers.

The bursary has been made possible thanks to the support of Karen Knorr, HonFRPS.

The Women in Photography Group is a special interest group of the RPS.

Its aim is to aid the celebration, education and collaboration of female-identifying photographers.

The bursary selection panel includes:

  • Photographer Joanna Vestey
  • Creative producer and curator Sebah Chaudhry
  • Women in Photography chair Teri Walker
  • Spectrum Photographic director Hazel Watts

The bursary is open to postgraduate students on courses in photography or undertaking research in photography.
