From soil chromatography to plant based developers there are plenty of earthy topics for people to get stuck into this August. The Sustainable Darkroom will be hosting nine workshops, two socials, and one talk across five days at Intrepid Studios, Hove.
Throughout the weeklong programme, participants can expect to learn a whole host of new photographic skills and sustainable processes for a more eco-friendly approach to their own practice. Workshops include darkroom printing with seaweed, cyanotype printing with waste packaging and botanical toners, as well as managing your own darkroom waste.

Starting as a research group under London Alternative Photography Collective, The Sustainable Darkroom has been operating on its own since 2021 as an artist-run research, training and mutual learning programme. It aims to equip cultural practitioners with new skills and knowledge to develop an environmentally friendly photographic darkroom practice. Hosting workshops and talks online and in person, the team provides up-to-date and essential information, resources and support to practitioners that wish to approach their own photographic practice in a more ecologically-conscious way.

Workshops take place at Intrepid Studios from the 28th August until 1st September 2023. You can book tickets individually via eventbrite.
